PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The vineyards in Horse Heaven Hills are the source and inspiration behind the Columbia Crest Horse Heaven Hills, or “H3” wines.  The hills, named for the wild horses that once roamed the area, have been home to Columbia Crest winery for more than two decades, and it is this heritage, combined with innovative winemaking and vineyard knowledge that allow our winemaker to create wines that capture the unique terroir of the appellation.

Aromatics of slight mineral, apple, pear, smoke and Horse Heaven Hills dust open the elegant yet racy, medium-bodied 2008 H3 Chardonnay. A balanced palate of fruit and French oak leads to a seductive, slightly creamy vanilla finish.

The 2008 H3 Merlot entices the nose with aromas of blueberry and cassis with hints of tobacco and spice aromas.  The silky and sweet mid-palate introduces slight dusty, earthy, and rich berry notes which cumulate in long and concentrated finish.

The intense, fruit-forward 2008 H3 Cabernet Sauvignon delivers aromas of dark chocolate-covered cherries, black tea and a hint of cedar, leading to a silky texture accented by flavors of cassis and exotic spices, this wine is structured but delicate with a perfect balance of earthy tannins and a lingering finish.

The H3 wines are available nationally for the suggested retail price of $15.

Founded in 1983, Columbia Crest has grown from a small winery in a relatively unknown wine region to one of the most significant wineries in the U.S. and a major force behind Washington state’s emergence as a world class wine region.  In 2009, Wine Spectator magazine named the Columbia Crest 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon the No. 1 Wine in the World on its Top 100 list for 2009, the first time a wine from Washington state has received the ranking. The wine was selected from more than 17,000 wines tasted by editors throughout the year. Over the past 12 years, 15 Columbia Crest wines have been named to the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list.
