CHOCOLATE THAT CHANGES THE WORLD
After several hundred years of exploitation, indigenous cacao growers from the Ecuadorian Amazon have caused a revolution in the cocoa industry – by making their own line of gourmet chocolate envied by prestigious European and North American chocolatiers.
Kallari cacao growers from the Ecuadorian Amazon were recognized by Slow Food in Italy with the Presidium recognition in the Ark of Taste for cultivating one of the world’s most threatened and highest quality cocoa bean varietals, Cacao Nacional de Arriba. Kallari processes this unique cultivar into gourmet dark chocolate at a factory a few hours drive from the farms.
Kallari chocolate is the world’s only bar that is 100% farmer-owned by indigenous farmers and made in the country of origin. Chocolate manufacturing nearby the farms means Kallari cocoa is fresh and does not have the toxins from fumigation, nor is it contaminated with mildew, mold, insect and fungal damage, like chocolates made in North America or Europe. Not only is Kallari chocolate safer for consumers, due to local processing, the chocolate is guilt free and free of exploitation.
Most consumers do not realize that cocoa growers typically earn less than 20 cents per hour. Kallari farmers earn over $1.50 per hour for their hard work, since they reap the profits of their own value-added chocolate and are not exploited by the cocoa industry.
Kallari has two product lines, one is a gourmet line of dark chocolate that has been rated the best tasting organic chocolate on the market by scores of culinary experts. Gourmet bars are available in 70 gram organic dark chocolate in 70% Cacao, 75% Cacao, and 85% Cacao recipes.
The Sacha line is a rustic, artisanal line of small dark chocolate bars. The dark chocolate is available in four different recipes, including a hot chili and wild cinnamon bar.
